Tattooing Directions for Ketchum Manufacturing Inc. Ear Tattooers
- Clean the inside of the ear with alcohol. Remove any hair. To tattoo pigs at birth, on the outside of the ear, this step is unnecessary.
- Flip open the lever lock bar, Insert the tattoo letter and/or number dies in the tattoo forceps. Close the lock bar. Check that the tattoo is correct on this, or similar, card stock.
- Beginners should place a rubber ear-release stripper over the tattoo dies and close forceps. Place a second stripper over the first stripper. Remove the second stripper. The pins should be seen above the first stripper.
- Shake fluid ink to ensure even concentration of pigment. Smear paste or fluid ink on ear where tattoo is to be placed, using the thumb or the convenient roll-on dispenser. For light coloured pigs ears, the ink is placed on the outside of the ear.
- Close forceps and pierce ear through the ink with a quick, firm motion. Open forceps, immediately. Avoid excessive pressure.
- If using liquid ink, reapply over existing ink. 6a. Rub ink into the tattoo holes with thumb on inked surface against forefinger on the non-inked surface of the ear. THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT. If there is bleeding, continue rubbing ink into holes. Ketchum tattoo ink has antiseptic and healing properties which will soon check bleeding.
- Do not remove excess ink. It will wear away by itself.
- Clean and dry tattooer and dies after each use. Liquid dish detergent in water and a soft brush work well. Do not use harsh solvents. A hair dryer works well for this purpose. Store equipment in a dry location
Use Only Ketchum Permanent Tattoo Ink.
Other inks may be absorbed into the blood stream and fade.
We guarantee that tattoos will be legible and permanent if the correct Ketchum tattoo model,
Ketchum permanent tattoo ink and tattooing procedure are used.
